Box Score 2 ADA – The East Central University softball team picked up two non-conference wins over Rogers State at Lady Tiger Field.
The Lady Tigers (27-20) were led by junior
Kaile Marcum who had four hits, two runs and two RBIs for a .667 average. Marcum was one of four players with a batting average of .500 or better for the day, with junior
Samantha McGraw and sophomore
Amanda Edmundson adding .667 marks and red-shirt freshman
Sydney Dow hitting .500.
Dow was also successful in the circle, earning a win in 7.2 innings of action. She allowed 10 hits and four runs, but struck out 16, including 10 in the opening game of the day. Freshman
Nicole Nordie earned the win in game two, with 1.1 innings of work, two hits and zero runs allowed.
The Lady Tigers will remain at home for the final two weeks of Great American Conference action with the first team to be hosted, Northwestern Oklahoma State, April 18-19. ECU will host double-headers each day, with Friday, April 18 starting at 2 p.m. and Saturday, April 19 at noon.
Game 1 – ECU 8, RSU 0The teams held each other scoreless through the first three innings before the Lady Tigers were able to get their bats going in the bottom of the fourth.
Senior
Gina Mengwasser started the innings with a home run to left center. McGraw then drew a walk and was sent home when sophomore
Jordynn VanPelt doubled. Sophomore
Autumn Suydam sent a run home when she reached on an error. Dow kept things going with a walk and a run scored on a single by Marcum. The final run scored when junior
Leah Tigert doubled for a 5-0 lead.
ECU added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the run-rule into effect. VanPelt singled and was sent to third when Suydam went for a sacrifice bunt and was safe due to another error. Sophomore
Lauren Reeves earned an RBI with a fielder choice. Sophomore
Chelsea Patterson was added to the bases when she was hit by a pitch and Dow added two RBIs with a triple.
The Hillcats (11-29) got one runner on base in the fifth, but had three batters strikeout to end the game.
Game 2 – ECU 8, RSU 6The second game was a much closer battle that started with RSU scoring a run in the top of the second for a 0-1 lead.
The Lady Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the second, with a VanPelt walk, Suydam sacrifice bunt and single from Marcum.
The Hillcats regained the advantage in the third with a single run for a 1-2 lead.
ECU waited until the bottom of the fourth to respond and took a 3-2 lead. Edmundson and Marcum singled and were sent to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Kayci Snider. That allowed Nordie to earn two RBIs with a two-out single.
RSU again took control of the scoreboard with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings for a 3-6 advantage.
The Lady Tigers fought back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs for the 8-6 lead. Edmundson and Marcum singled and the bases were loaded when Snider reached due to an error. Nordie was then walked for the first run of the inning and kept the bases loaded.
Tigert scored two runs with a double and Mengwasser added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. The final run was scored when McGraw singled to right.
The Hillcats had a good chance to score in the top of the seventh, as they loaded the bases with two outs. However, the last batter hit a ball right at senior
Tarra Underhill-Christy at third for the final out of the game.
