ADA – The East Central University softball team will be at home for their second-to-last home series of the 2015 season, Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3 when they host Southern Arkansas at Tiger Field. Thursday's double-header is set to start at 2 p.m. and Friday's at 1 p.m.
The Tigers moved to 16-11 overall and 13-6 in the Great American Conference standings after going 3-1 last weekend at Arkansas-Monticello. ECU is now sitting in fourth in the GAC standings, just slightly behind Southeastern Oklahoma State and just a few games behind leader Arkansas Tech (14-4).
The Muleriders come into this weekend's game with a 17-14 overall record and a 9-10 mark in the GAC after going 1-3 last weekend against SEOSU. Ashton Atwell is the top producer at the plate for SAU, with a .410 average, 30 runs, 43 hits and 36 RBIs.
The Muleriders are rotating through three pitchers, all with over 60 innings of work so far in 2015. Jami Godwin has a 5-3 record in the circle after 64 innings of work. She has allowed 83 hits and 43 runs, while striking out 14.
A year ago, the teams met in Magnolia, Ark., with SAU earning three wins and ECU one. Seniors Kalie Marcum and
Kayci Snider led the Tiger returners with .333 batting averages from the series. Marcum recorded four hits, one run and one RBI, while Snider tallied two hits and three RBIs. Senior
Brianna Nunley went 1-1 in the circle for ECU, allowing 13 hits and three runs and recording five Ks.
The Muleriders top returner is Maddie Dow, who hit .467, with seven hits, two runs and six RBIs. Miranda Cuff leader the returning pitchers with a 1-1 record and a 3.65 ERA. She allowed eight hits and five runs in 7.1 innings of work.
Since 1999, the teams have meet on 20 previous occasions, with SAU leading 9-11. The series stands at 4-8 when playing as GAC opponents and 6-4 when playing at Tiger Field.
