ADA – The East Central University softball team will have a few extra days to get ready for its next Great American Conference series, as the four-game series with Henderson State has been moved to Sunday, March 13 and Monday, March 14. Doubleheaders are set to start at 1 p.m. each day at Dee White Field.
The Tigers (12-11, 8-3 GAC) are coming off their first series sweep of the season, taking all four games from Ouachita Baptist last weekend at Tiger Field. Freshman
Madison Thompson led ECU with a .700 batting average in the series. She tallied seven hits, two runs and three RBIs in three games.
Junior
Sydney Dow had a strong series, hitting a walk-off single to win the final game of the series (in her only at bat) and throwing a complete game shutout. She threw five innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out two.
Senior
Marissa Shaffer picked up two wins, allowed six hits and two runs, struck out six and earned one shutout in 10.0 innings of work.
The Reddies (11-13, 2-10 GAC) are coming off two wins against Christian Brothers (March 8) after dropping four games to Southeastern last weekend.
HSU is being led by Ashlyn White and Courtney Warren at the plate. White has a .355 batting average, 12 runs, 22 hits and 21 RBIs for the year. Warren adds a .348 average, 16 runs, 24 hits and six RBIs.
The Reddies have used three pitchers in the circle, with one seeing under 20 innings of work. Michelle Sorensen has been in the game the most for HSU, with 82.2 innings of work. She has allowed 66 hits and 47 runs, while striking out 65 and earning a 7-6 record.
Madison Calvert adds a 4-6 record in 56.0 innings. She has allowed 71 hit and 45 runs, while recording 20 Ks.
Since 1999, the teams have meet on 25 previous occasions, with ECU holding a 20-5 advantage in the all-time series, including a 15-1 mark as GAC opponents. ECU went 4-3 against the Reddies in 2015, going 2-2 in the regular season and 2-1 in the 2015 GAC Championship Tournament. When playing in Arkadelphia, Ark., the series stands a 7-1 in favor of the Tigers.
