Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, ARK. – The East Central University split non-conference games at the second day of the UAM 8-State Classic. ECU picked up a 13-2 win over William Jewell in six innings in the first game and then fell 3-4 to Washburn in eight innings.
The Tigers (7-3) saw five players hit .500 or better, with senior
Haley Hyatt leading the team with a .667 average, two hits, one run and three RBIs. Junior
Alissa Taylor added a .625 average, two runs, five hits and two RBIs.
Senior
Kelbie Crelia earned the win in the circle, with a 3.50 ERA, four hits and two runs allowed in four innings of work.
ECU will wrap up the weekend, Sunday, Feb. 19 with games against Fort Hays State (1 p.m.) and Northeastern State (3 p.m.).
ECU 13, William Jewell 2 (6)
William Jewell was the first to get on the scoreboard, taking a 0-1 advantage in the first inning.
It took until the third for the Tigers to get going, but when they did ECU put five runs on the board. The Tigers scored the runs on four hits and two walks.
WJC added a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-5.
ECU added a run in the fourth, on a walk to junior
Claresha Clemons and singles from Taylor and sophomore
Breecia Crawford, to push the lead to 2-6.
The sixth inning is when the Tigers really pushed through, scoring seven runs on eight hits for the 2-13 final.
Washburn 4, ECU 3 (8)
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. The scoring started with a solo home run from Taylor, while redshirt sophomore
Aundrea Hamric added a double and sophomore
Mariah Ewy, Hyatt and sophomore
Ellanee Allison singled to score the two other runs.
The Ichabods countered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1. Washburn then added two runs in the sixth to tie the game at three.
It then took an extra inning to decide things. While the Tigers got a runner to third with a double, but were unable to get the run home. Washburn then took the advantage and scored a run in the bottom of the inning on two hits and a sacrifice bunt.
