ADA – The East Central University softball team, who clinched a spot in the 2017 Great American Conference Championship Tournament after last weekend's games, will play the final games of the 2017 regular-season on the road at Arkansas-Monticello. Double headers are set for Friday, April 28 at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. Saturday, April 29.
The Tigers are 28-23 overall and 19-20 in the GAC after going 3-1 last weekend against Southern Nazarene. After the weekend ECU is ranked No. 5 in the GAC standings, while UAM is currently third.
The Tigers were led by junior
Claresha Clemons who tallied a .500 average, five hits, three runs and four RBIs. Junior
Alissa Taylor added a .462 average, six hits, one run and four RBIs.
ECU saw three different pitchers earn a win in the circle, with freshman
Sierra Skaggs and
Karlie Milburn each earning a 0.00 ERA. Skaggs pitched her second complete game of the year, while senior
Kelbie Crelia earned a complete-game shutout.
The Cotton Blossoms are 32-18 overall and 25-13 in the GAC heading into the final weekend of regular-season action.
UAM has four players averaging over .300 on the season, with McKenzie Rice leading the way with a .348 average, 56 hits, 40 runs and 26 RBIs.
Kendra Coleman is the leading pitcher with 177.0 innings of work, seven shutout, 24 complete games and a 19-6 record. She has allowed 130 hits and 37 runs, while striking out 162.
The teams have met on just 18 previous seasons, with the Tigers holding an 11-7 lead overall, a 10-6 mark as GAC opponents and a 4.2 mark when playing in Monticello.
