ADA – After the drenching rain that has been falling in both Oklahoma and Arkansas over the past week, the East Central University softball team's first Great American Conference series with Southern Arkansas has been moved and pushed back to Sunday, Feb. 25 and Monday, Feb. 26 in Bonham, Texas. The teams will play double-headers each day, with Sunday's starting at 4 p.m. and Monday's at 11 a.m.
The Tigers (5-5) have been idle since Feb. 15 when they played both Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian. ECU split the day, with junior
Kahlie Barrett and sophomore
Catherine Barrera both hitting .600 or more. Barrett hit .667 in one game, while Barrera added a .600 average, three hits, three runs and an RBI.
Junior
Demi Danell picked up the win in the circle, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing seven hits and three runs against Oklahoma Christian.
The Muleriders (9-1) are currently ranked No. 7 in the NFCA DII Top-25 Coaches Poll, after going 3-1 in the Emporia State 6-State Classic, Feb. 17-18. SAU defeated Pittsburgh State, Missouri Southern State and Concordia-St. Paul and dropped their first game of the year to host Emporia State.
The Muleriders have three players hitting over .400 for the season. Monica Islava and Faith Otts are both hitting .464, with 13 hits. Brooke Goad adds a .440 average, 11 hits, eight runs, seven home runs and 18 RBIs.
SAU has a five-member pitching staff, with three rotating in the circle the most. Victoria Taylor leads the group with 27.0 innings, a 1.56 ERA, 4-0 record, three complete games, two shutouts, 20 hits and seven runs allowed and 32 Ks.
Since the 1999 season, the Tigers have gone 12-23 in the all-time series against the Muleriders. ECU is 7-17 when playing as GAC teams and 0-1 when playing on a neutral field.
