Box Score 1 BETHANY, OKLA. – The East Central University softball team started its first Great American Conference doubleheader at Southern Nazarene. The Tigers (20-27, 15-22 GAGC) fell 7-4 in game one and are currently tied at five in the top of the ninth in game two. The second game was suspended because of a lack of light and will be picked up Saturday, April 21.
ECU was led in the day by senior
Alissa Taylor, with four hits, one run and two RBIs. Sophomore
Catherine Barrera has added four hits, one run and one RBI.
The teams will hope to wrap up the series, Saturday, April 21 starting at 12 p.m., weather permitting.
SNU 7, ECU 4
The Crimson Strom (22-24, 18-16 GAC) started the score in the third inning, taking a 4-0 advantage. Both team remained scoreless in the fourth before the Tigers started a come-back.
ECU tallied a run in the fifth on a solo home run by Barrera. The Tigers then added a run in the sixth to trail 4-2.
After an out, freshman
Jacey Henry reached on a fielder's choice and went to second on a single by senior
Claresha Clemons. The run then scored when freshman
Angel Stoker singled.
The Tigers then tied things up in the top of the seventh inning with two runs (4-4). After the first out, junior
Breecia Crawford reached because of an error and went to second on a single by junior
Mariah Ewy. After another out, Taylor singled to right scoring both runs.
However, SNU was able to get two runners on in the bottom of the inning before they tallied a three-run home run to win 7-4.
ECU 5, SNU 5 (Top of the 9th – Suspended)
The second game saw both teams score in the first inning, with the Tigers earning a run and the Crimson Storm two for a 2-1 lead.
ECU scored its run on singles from Taylor, Henry, Clemons and Stoker.
SNU added two its lead in the second inning, moving the score to 4-1.
Both teams then held each other scoreless for the next four innings. That is when the Tigers fought back, with four runs in the seventh for a 5-1 lead.
Taylor singled and Henry was walked to put two runners on for Clemons when she hit a home run to left to tie the game at four. Stoker, Barrera and junior
Ellanee Allison all singled to load the bases, allowing freshman
Meagan Dake to earn an RBI when she was walked for the 5-4 lead.
However, the Crimson Storm were able to plate a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at five.
Both teams remained scoreless in the eighth and ECU then got two runners on in the bottom of the ninth before play was suspended.
