The East Central University soccer team will have a light week, with just one match on the schedule.  The Tigers are set to face league-leading Southern Nazarene, Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at Wes Harmon Field in the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex in Bethany, Okla.

Scouting Southern Nazarene
The Crimson Storm are currently 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Great American Conference.  SNU has played the last seven matches on the road, going 3-4, and Friday's match will be just the second at home.  The last match at home for the Crimson Storm was the season opener Sept. 4.

SNU has a slight, 14-13, lead in the goals scored column against its opponents, but they lead 155-75 in shots and 65-46 in shots on goal.  While the Crimson Storm has scored seven goals in both the first and second halves, they have allowed eight in the first and four in the second.  Yet they have allowed the opposition to tallied more shots in the second half (29-43).

Mallary Pineda leads a group of three players with multiple goals and seven who have tallied a goal this season.  Pineda has five goals, two assists, 35 shots and 17 shots on goal this season.  Alyssa Glitzke is next on the goal-scoring list with three, while Sheridan Williams adds two goals and an assist.

Natasha Fuentes has seen all the action in the net for SNU, earning three shutouts.  Fuentes has allowed 13 goals and tallied 33 saves for a 1.62 goals against average and a .717 saves percentage.

Against the Crimson Storm
Last year, the Tigers fell in both meetings with SNU and tallied just one goal to three by the Crimson Storm.

Senior Katie Glutz tallied the lone goal for ECU, with an assist from senior Kourtney Holleman.  Junior Taylor Lowe minded the net, allowing three goals and stopping 13 shots for a .812 saves percentage.

Bekah Stewart and Mallary Pineda are the two returners that tallied a goal each in the series, while Alyssa Glitzke earned an assist.

The Series
Friday's meeting will be the eighth in the all-time series, with SNU lead 2-5 and 1-3 when playing as members of the GAC.  The series is skewed in favor of the Crimson Storm when playing in Bethany, with all four meetings resulting in wins for SNU.  ECU lost 1-2 in the last meeting (Oct. 25, 2013) on the road, with the last Tiger win coming Oct. 26, 2012 with a 3-2 double-overtime win in Ada.

Double Standard
Senior Milan Galloway has set a high standard for herself, with a team leading four goals.  What makes the numbers more interesting is that she has scored in just two games, with two goals scored in each outing.

Lowe Goalkeeper of the Week
ECU junior Taylor Lowe picked up her first and the team's second GAC honor of the season, as she was named the GAC Goalkeeper of the Week for Sept. 23.

Lowe recorded 11 saves in posting a 1-1 record, with a 2.00 goals-against average, for the Tigers.  She tallied five saves against Northeastern State and came back with six in a 4-2 win against Lubbock Christian.  At 3-3-1, ECU posted its third-best start in school history.

Glutz Defender of the Week
Senior Margaret Glutz was named the GAC Defender of the Week for Sept. 16 after helping the Tigers to a 2-0-1 mark.

The Santee, Calif., native anchored a Tiger defense that allowed only four goals in three matches last week. Against Newman, she helped a defense that blocked a pair of shots and added an assist on the first goal. Against Oklahoma Baptist, she paced ECU to their first shutout win of the season, while the defense blocked a total of four shots.

Heavy Home Schedule Late
This season those wishing to see the Tigers in action at home against other members of the GAC will have to wait until late in the season.  This year all the home conference matches are in a block at the end of the season, starting Oct. 16 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Up Next
The Tigers will wrap up the marathon GAC road trip next week with matches at Harding, Thursday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 11 at Ouachita Baptist.  ECU will then play the final five matches of the conference season at home starting Oct. 16.
