WICHITA, KAN. – The East Central University men's tennis team earned its first wins of the 2013-14 season when they defeated Newman 5-4 and Friends 9-0 at West Genesis.

The Tigers (2-2) took one of three points in the doubles matches against the Jets. Juniors
Marc Fillat and
Max DeJuan earned an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Evgeniy Kim and Max Pyle.
ECU then picked up singles wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No.6 singles to earn the win. DeJuan earned a win over Eduardo Santos, 3-6, 6-3,10-7 at No. 2 singles. Senior
Julian Caminos then added a 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 win over Kim at No. 3 singles.
Junior
Nate Kipping added a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 win over Miguel Bendiot at No. 5 singles. The final point came from freshman
Stefan Schodlbauer at No. 6 singles over Pyle (7-6, 6-7, 10-7).
The Tigers then earned a 9-0 win over Friends at a neutral court. Caminos and senior
Andrew Cabato claimed an 8-2 win over Ferdinand Ostrowicki and Eric Berner at No. 1 doubles to start the match for ECU.
DeJuan then made the score 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Berner at No. 2 singles. The winning point was scored by Caminos, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stefan Nikolic at No. 3 singles.
The Tigers will now return home for their first home match of the 2014 season, Feb. 24 against Seminole State at 1 p.m.
