BENTONVILLE, ARK. – The East Central University men's tennis team saw three players earn All-Great American Conference honors, with sophomore
Sergio Espias headlining the group.
Espias was a unanimous All-GAC First Team selection and the GAC Player and Newcomer of the Year. He was joined on the All-GAC First Team by sophomore
Alex Fillat and sophomore
Adria Abella was an All-GAC Second Team selection.
Espias, a native of Barcelona, Spain, went undefeated in GAC singles play this season (3-0) and finished the regular-season with a 16-5 overall singles mark and 10-8 in doubles (2-2 GAC). He has won his last four singles matches and is 7-3 in the last 10, earning a No. 7 ranking in ITA Central Region singles.
Fillat, who was the GAC Freshman of the Year in 2015 and an All-GAC First Team pick, was 11-14 in singles and 9-15 in doubles play. Fillat is ranked No. 16 in ITA Central Region singles.
Abella went 11-10 overall in singles in 2015-16, with a 3-1 mark against league opponents.
The Tigers (8-11, 1-3 GAC) will open the 2015-16 GAC Championship Tournament, Friday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. against Ouachita Baptist. The championship match is set for Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park in Bentonville, Ark.
