SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The East Central University women's tennis team started the 2014 season with losses to No. 24 Drury (0-8) and Washburn (4-5).
The Lady Tigers got singles with from junior
Elisabeth Dignard, senior
Agostina Moran and freshman
Julia Municoy and a doubles win from juniors
Kelsey Kerr and
Bernardita Muscillo.
ECU is scheduled to open the home portion of the 2014 season, Saturday, Feb. 8 at noon against Central Oklahoma at the ECU Tennis Courts.
Match 2 - Washburn 5, East Central 4
ECU started the match by taking one of three doubles points. Junior
Aurelie Rodriguez and Dignard first fell to Jodie Blackhim and Kristen Holle, 3-8 at No. 1 doubles. The Lady Tigers then tied the match at one-point each when Kerr and Muscillo claimed an 8-3 win over Nzingha Baugs and Maria Moral at No. 3 doubles. Washburn earned the final doubles point with a 5-8 win at No. 2 doubles.
Dignard tied the match at two-points each with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Moral at No. 3 singles. Washburn took the next two points at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for a 2-4 lead.
Moran gave ECU the next point, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Holle at No. 4 singles. Municoy then tied the match at four, with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Gwen Shepler at No. 5 singles.
However, Washburn took No. 6 singles for the 4-5 win.
Match 1 – No. 24 Drury 8, East Central 0
Drury started the match by earning all three doubles points, but the Lady Tigers fought hard at No. 1 doubles and fell by just two. Rodriguez and Dignard were defeated by Stefanie Monsch and Lara Muller 6-8.
Municoy had strong outing at No. 5 singles by taking one set from Samanta Zambrano. Municoy lost the first set 5-7 then earned a 6-2 win in the second before falling 14-12 in the tie-breaker.
