Men’s Tennis Picks Up Two Wins

ADA – The East Central University men's tennis team picked up two wins in non-conference action at home.  The Tigers (6-4) first earned a 5-1 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith and then defeated Crowley County 6-3.

ECU took a 2-1 lead over the Lions (2-7) in the opening match of the day after doubles.  Seniors Julian Caminos and Andrew Cabato earned the first point for the Tigers with an 8-3 win over Chris Ramirez and J.T. Tasker at No. 1 doubles.  Junior Nate Kipping and freshman Stefan Schodlbauer then added an 8-4 win over Ryan Heslop and Sean Manning at No. 3 doubles.

Junior Marc Fillat made the score 3-1 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Ramirez at No. 1 singles.  Junior Max DeJuan added a point with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Jesse Green at No. 2 singles.  Caminos gave ECU the win with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Manning at No. 3 singles.

The Tigers again took a 2-1 lead after doubles in the second match of the day.  DeJuan and Fillat were the first to finish, with an 8-3 win over Ryan Hoverson and Andreas Kutt at No. 2 doubles.  Kipping and Schodlbauer then gave ECU a second point with an 8-4 win over Seth Moore and Joshua Coleman at No. 3 doubles.

Crowley tied the match at two with a win at No. 1 singles.  Caminos gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Moore. 

Crowley again tied the match at three with a win at No. 4 singles.  Schodlbauer pushed the lead back to 4-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Charlie Rodriquez at No. 5 singles.  The winning point then came from Kipping with a 6-3,6 -2 win at No. 6 singles over Kutt.

The Tigers will have the week off before hosting BYU-Hawaii and Northwest Missouri State, Saturday, March 22 at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.  ECU will then host Southwest Baptist, Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
