ADA – The East Central University men's and women's tennis teams are preparing for their final competition of the 2014-15 fall season at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championship hosted by Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. The tournament is set to run Sept. 19-21 at the Bolivar Tennis Complex.
The Tigers will be sending a total of seven men's and four women's players to this year's single-elimination tournament. In 2013 the ECU men's team went 1-3 in singles play and 0-2 in doubles at the event, while the women went 2-3 in singles and 1-2 in doubles.
On the men's side, the Tigers will be represented by seniors
Max DeJuan,
Marc Fillat and
Nate Kipping, junior
Felix Desharnais, sophomore
Stefan Schodlbauer and freshmen
Adria Abella and
Alex Fillat.
In 2013 DeJuan entered the tournament as No. 6 in singles and earned a bye in the opening round before falling in the second.
Nate Kipping went 0-1 in singles, while
Marc Fillat earned a win in the opening round and the fell in the second.
In doubles
Nate Kipping went 0-1 with Vincente Rodriguez, as did DeJuan and Fillat.
This season
Alex Fillat,
Marc Fillat, DeJuan, Abella, Schodlbauer and
Nate Kipping will all compete in the singles action. DeJuan and
Marc Fillat will pair in doubles, along with Schodlbauer and Desharnais and
Nate Kipping and
Trevor Kipping.
On the women's side, the Tigers will be represented by seniors
Bernardita Muscillo and
Aurelie Rodriguez and sophomores
Gloria Mayorga and
Julia Municoy.
Muscillo went 0-1 in singles in 2013 and 0-1 in doubles with
Agostina Moran. Rodriguez finished 1-1 in singles action along with
Elisabeth Dignard. The duo also combined for a 1-1 mark in doubles play.
All four will play in singles and doubles, with Municoy and Rodriguez pairing and Mayorga and Muscillo combining.
