WICHITA, KAN. – The East Central University women's tennis team split two matches over the weekend, earning a 5-2 win over Rockhurst and falling to Newman (5-0).

The Tigers (4-2) first earned a 5-2 win over Rockhurst (1-3).  ECU took a 2-1 lead after doubles, with No. 1 and No. 2 doubles earning wins.  Sophomore Julia Municoy and senior Elisabeth Dignard first claimed an 8-2 win over Emma Schelble and Ana Tamara Santos at No. 1 doubles.  Freshman Srijita Ghosh and sophomore Gloria Mayorga then added an 8-4 win over Alex Schelble and Kim Vrugteveen at No. 2 doubles.

The Hawks tied the match at two with a win at No. 1 singles, but the Tigers fought back and earned the next three points to end the match. Mayorga picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Justine Berezintsev at No. 5 singles and Ghosh added a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alex Schelble at No. 4 singles.  That allowed Dignard to earn the match winning point with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Santos at No. 3 singles.

ECU struggled a little in the second match of the weekend, falling behind 0-3 after doubles to Newman and then giving up to more pints in single for the 0-5 loss.

The Tigers will now prepare for their first home match of the 2014-15 season and the first Great American Conference battle of the season, Feb. 22 when Arkansas Tech comes to Mayhue Courts for a 2 p.m. match.
