ADA – The East Central University men's tennis team dropped a tight, 5-4, match to No. 27 Nebraska-Kearney in NCAA Central Region action.
The Tigers (6-10) took an early 2-1 lead after doubles. The Lopers (17-2) took the No. 2 doubles match before ECU rebounded to take No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Freshman
Alex Fillat and senior
Marc Fillat first claimed an 8-6 win over Geroges Wakim and Lucas Garces at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore
Stefan Schodlbauer and senior
Nate Kipping then took No. 3 doubles, 8-6, over Jack Nicholson and Justin Nguyen.
UNK tied the match at two, with a win at No. 4 singles before
Alex Fillat gave ECU the lead again with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Joey Richards at No. 2 singles.
The then went in favor of the Lopers with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Schodlbauer then tied the match at four with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Aaron Reekie at No. 5 singles.
However, UNK took the final singles match, with a three set win to earn the overall match win.
The Tigers will now get ready for the final two regular-season matches of the 2015 season when they travel to face Southeastern Oklahoma State April 14 and Harding April 18 in Great American Conference action.
