ADA – The East Central University women's tennis team picked up a key NCAA Central Regional victory over the University of Nebraska-Kearney, 5-4.
The Tigers (10-10) took an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches, with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Freshman
Srijita Ghosh and senior
Bernardita Muscillo were the first to finish, with an 8-4 win over Kari Emery and Emma Neil at No. 3 doubles.
Sophomore
Julia Municoy and senior
Elisabeth Dignard then made the score 2-0 with an 8-5 win over Sthefani Rodriguez and Emily Fink at No. 1 doubles.
The Lopers (17-4) then took No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to tie the match at two.
Sophomore
Gloria Mayorga gave ECU the lead back with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Fink and Municoy put the match within reach with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Kristin Weems at No. 1 singles (4-2).
UNK took No. 5 singles to make the score 4-3, but Muscillo gave the Tigers the win with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Rodriguez at No. 2 singles.
ECU will now get ready for the final three regular-season matches, all against Great American Conference opponents, starting with a road match against Southeastern Oklahoma State, Tuesday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
