ADA – The East Central University tennis teams will both be playing in key Great American Conference matches in the next two days, starting with a Friday, April 3 women's tennis match against Henderson State at 8 p.m. The men's tennis team will open GAC play against Ouachita Baptist, Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m.
The women's match is set to be played at the Ada Courts, with the Tigers looking to improve to 2-0 in GAC play and the Reddies are 0-1 in the league after falling to Southeastern (1-8) April 1.
ECU is ranked No. 8 in the region, while sophomore
Julia Municoy has earned a No. 10 ranking in singles for the Central region by the ITA.
The Reddies come into the match with a 4-5 overall record and have lost their last two matches and four of the last five.
On the men's side, the No. 43 Tigers will be playing their first of four GAC matches against No. 18 Ouachita Baptist at Mayhue Courts. OBU is No. 1 in the Central region, while ECU is ranked No. 7 in the region. OBU has three players ranked in the top-20 (1,5,7) in the region in singles play and one doubles pair in the top-10 (3), while ECU has senior Marc Fillat at No. 18 and freshman Alex Fillat at No. 20 in singles play and the duo is No. 5 in doubles.
Ouachita Baptist comes into this weekend with an 8-3 overall record, but they have not played since March 14 when they defeated No. 16 Northwest Missouri State, 5-4. OBU will face Southeastern Friday before travel to Ada.
